Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese form of medicine which has been used in China for the last 3000 years. Its effectiveness is now accepted in various countries including New Zealand.
Acupuncture aims at treating the person, along with the disease. This means that the acupuncturist looks at the patient as a whole, finds the cause of the illness and the imbalance in the body causing it. With its unique system of diagnosis, an acupuncturist will ask not only details of the immediate problem, but also take a precise history of past illnesses, familial tendencies, and aim to determine a complete picture of the patient's health. In this way, acupuncture has always been used as a preventative medicine and may bring positive benefits.
Treatment by acupuncture consists of the insertion of fine needles into carefully selected points on the body. The points are selected from classical acupuncture theory, along with points supported by current neuroscience research. When these two frameworks are combined, point selection can become more clinically powerful.
Acupuncture can increase levels of endorphins, acetylcholine, and serotonin, which contribute to calmness and recovery. It may also reduce cortisol levels, decreasing stress load on the nervous system.
Treatment can be supported with massage, cupping, electro stimulation and red-light therapy.
"Struggling with Stress or Pain? Acupuncture may be able to help You heal naturally"
Most patients are amazed how painless acupuncture can be. There is no universal response, however, when the correct stimulus of the needle has been obtained, the patient may feel some heaviness, distension or a tingling sensation either around the needle or travelling up or down the affected energy pathway or meridian.
Effects on patients can vary depending on individual physiology and receptiveness to the treatment. While the experience will be different for everyone, our treatment usually makes you feel calm and relaxed.
Acupuncture encourages gentle shifts in the body’s energy, influencing the nerves, circulation, and the natural tone of the muscles. Taking a little time to rest afterward can be comforting, giving your body some time and space to settle and respond in its own way to the treatment.
If your body is whispering that it needs a reset, acupuncture is a gentle way to restore balance and reconnect with your well‑being.
“A small pause. A deep breath. A moment to realign”.
“Acupuncture supports the nervous system by encouraging steadier, healthier patterns in how the body senses and responds. Research suggests it may gently influence brain activity and help settle inflammation. People notice shifts at their own pace, and every person responds differently.”
Occasionally, you may notice a brief worsening of the symptoms prior to an improvement, however, more commonly there is relief which is consolidated with progressive treatments.
“A planned course of 3-5 treatments is recommended to allow the body’s regulatory systems to gradually integrate and respond to the physiological signals initiated by the therapy.”
“Step into a peaceful environment where your healing journey truly begins”.
