Future Whangaparaoa - Whangaparāoa Āpōpō exists to support the Whangaparaoa Peninsula community by building capacity in local organisations and services, providing community events, and supporting the wellbeing of all residents.

Future Whangaparāoa’s History

Whangaparāoa Hub Community Trust was founded by deed on 27 July 2009 and had operated as an informal group for some years prior. It’s early goal was purely the delivery of a Community Hub (then called a Family Centre) for the Whangaparāoa Peninsula. Future Whangaparāoa Trust was formed by deed after acting as a catalyst group known as Whangaparāoa 2030 to develop an understanding of community needs funded by the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board.

Achievements of the Trusts include:

  • A Community Needs Study
  • A Hub Feasibility Study
  • A pop-up hub experiment at 707 Whangaparāoa Rd
  • The creation of business lobbying and service group Business Whangaparāoa
  • Active facilitation of community consultation over the Whangaparāoa Library Courtyard upgrade and initial plans for that project which after massive scale backs by Council were ultimately delivered as can be seen today
  • Delivery of the annual “A Very Coastie Christmas” event at various locations in Stanmore Bay since 2018
  • After the pop-up hub closed a version of it was delivered in various locations until the owners of Coast, the local shopping centre, offered the opportunity to deliver the facility at a community rental within the walls of the Plaza
  • In the financial year ended 31/3/25 delivered the capacity for 245 hostings of everything from personal counselling for youth seeking career assistance through to supporting local events, other Trust Board meetings, sign language classes, sewing classes, maths tutoring classes and playgroups hosted by ethnic communities mothers groups.
